Private Farm Tours - Kelp (winter), Oysters (summer/fall)
Curious what kelp and oyster farming are all about? Want to honor a special event or person and spend the day on the farm in serene Gull Cove? Want to be on a custom, all electric, solar powered barge while you learn about the many benefits of ocean farming to the local ecosystem? We got you covered!
Kelp Tours offered March thru May annually (weather permitting). 6 people max, 2.5hrs, includes kelp and oyster tasting, all safety gear, and “pick your own” kelp fresh off the line to take home!
Oyster Tours offered April thru November annually (weather permitting). 6 people max, 2.5hrs, includes oysters and beverages. Can customize to include local chef-inspired, in-season appetizers.
Kelp Farm Winter/Spring Internships
We offer Kelp Farm Internship and Pre-Apprenticeship opportunities each winter!
These are for high school or college students who are looking to expand their knowledge about a working kelp farm. Unpaid but we can work with your teachers/professors for course credit or independent study options.
Schedule can be customized to meet your learning objectives but generally includes: October out-planting; November-January monthly kelp monitoring and data collection; and April-May harvest and wrap up.

Youth & Community Programs
We work with schools across Rhode Island to offer daytime farm experiences, in-classroom labs and presentations, and summer camps for youth.
Classroom visit - We bring kelp (in the winter), oysters, critters like fish and crabs from the farm for kids to explore. In a fun and educational way, we learn how ocean farms are the superhero’s of the sea, helping the environment while providing a fun way to grow food on the water! 3 hrs, $200. Customized options and pricing available.
Dockside visits - Come learn about kelp farming from the safety of the dock! We have a dedicated educational dockside kelp farm in Portsmouth where groups can come see how kelp grows on the farm, do mini science experiments, and take some home for their gardens. 1.5 hrs, $150. Customized options and pricing available.
Farm visits - If your group has more time, spend time on the farm with us, pulling lines, tasting kelp and oysters, and getting to know what working ocean farm life is all about! Max of 15, 3 hours, $350. We can customize time and offerings to your group .
Summer camps - We offer full-day camps from Portsmouth for K-8, which include 3 rotating, staffed stations to learn about oysters farming hands on, quahogging, and fish seining! 5 hrs, 30 max, $1200.
Customized Offerings & Chef-Led Barge Dinners
