KELP FOR ANIMALS

Results are in! Thank you producers, backyard gardeners, animal agriculture businesses, and educators. To see how kelp helped their businesses, crops, and animals, visit our dataset!

Rhody Wild sugar kelp grown in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, has countless potential benefits for animals and crops. Our dried kelp can easily be added as a feed supplement to the diets of your cattle, horses, sheep, pigs, and chickens, and can also be applied to your soils and composts.

Rhody Wild Sea Gardens does not use synthetic chemicals, preservatives, or additives to grow or process our sugar kelp. We harvest from the beautiful waters of Narragansett Bay and promptly transfer the kelp to our greenhouse for drying. We do not blanch or wash our product, allowing our kelp to retain the saltiness of the sea! While our product is not USDA-certified organic, rest assured that Rhody Wild sugar kelp is an organic sea-grown product of the highest quality.

Thanks to a grant from Ocean Hour Farm, we are able to distribute our locally grown and harvested sugar kelp to farmers for free this year! Ocean Hour Farm is located in Newport, Rhode Island, and supports farming practices that provide long term benefits to ocean health.

If you have any questions about our sugar kelp or how to use dried kelp on your farm, please don’t hesitate to reach out! We are also happy to stop by your farm to chat and bring more kelp while supplies last.

If you are using kelp on your crops or for your animals, please share your observations!

Thank’s for kelping our planet, one farm at a time!
