Kelp & Carbon Capture

Kelp is a proven climate change mitigator. It grows fast, capturing more carbon in the process than many land-based plants. It also removes nitrogen and phosphorus from the water which is excess caused harm to marine life. By working with local land-based farms, we are helping local food production, small businesses, and innovative climate-friendly solutions in your backyard.

We all wish we could have a few simple actions to help improve the health of our planet. With kelp, we’re in luck! Ways you can (k)elp”:

  • Buy dried sugar kelp from our honor system pick-up location each March-June!

  • Purchase our Kelp Pearls - At local seafood stores in Rhode Island

  • Support a youth program through direct donation!

We offer a pathway for individuals & businesses to sponsor Rhody Wild kelp for carbon removal and the suite of other ecosystem services it provides. We aim to better understand, quantify, and highlight the many environmental benefits kelp offers - from nutrient removal, mitigation of local ocean acidification, carbon storage, habitat creation, and more - and bring these benefits to YOU.
